How to Play
Show the rulesHide the rules
Goal
Collect 3 Evidence cards first. Each time you Expose one of your opponent’s Toms, take 1 Evidence (2 for an Unhinged Tom).
You also win if your opponent has no Toms left in play, or can’t draw a card at the start of their turn.
Build a deck
- Exactly 40 cards.
- Up to 3 copies of any card, except basic Fuel (no limit).
- A good start: 16 Toms, 14 Fuel, and 10 Survivors, Gear and Venues.
- At least one Rookie Tom.
Set up
- Shuffle and draw 7.
- Put a Rookie Tom face down as your Lead, and up to 4 more in your Cubicles (the bench).
- Put the top 3 cards of your deck aside face down. Those are your Evidence.
- Flip a coin to go first. The first player can’t attack on their first turn.
No Rookie in your hand? Show it, reshuffle and draw 7 again. Your opponent draws 1 extra card.
Your turn
- Draw a card.
- Do any of these, in any order:
- Put Rookie Toms in your Cubicles.
- Attach 1 Fuel to one of your Toms.
- Escalate Toms (not on your first turn, and not a Tom that came into play this turn).
- Play any number of Gear.
- Play 1 Survivor and 1 Venue.
- Use Quirks.
- Clock Out once: swap your Lead with a Cubicle Tom by discarding Fuel equal to its Clock Out cost.
- Attack with your Lead if it has the Fuel the attack needs. Your turn ends.
Damage and Cover
Attacks put Suspicion on the defending Tom, in steps of 10. When a Tom’s Suspicion reaches its Cover, its cover is blown: it is Exposed and goes to the discard pile with everything attached. The attacker takes Evidence, and the defender moves a Cubicle Tom up to Lead.
Weak type: double damage. Resisted type: 30 less.
Escalation
Put an Escalated Tom on top of the Tom it escalates from. It keeps the Fuel, Gear and Suspicion, and drops any status. Unhinged Toms go on top of Escalated ones.
New daily Toms can extend any line, or start a new one.
Statuses
- Awkward: flip a coin before attacking. Tails, nothing happens.
- Sugar Crash: can’t attack or Clock Out during its next turn.
- On Hold: can’t Clock Out until the end of its owner’s next turn.
Clocking Out or escalating removes every status.

Power budget
Every new Tom has to fit its stage, so a new card never breaks the game.
| Stage | Cover | Best attack | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rookie | 60–80 | up to 60 | 1–2 |
| Escalated | 90–130 | up to 130 | 2–3 |
| Unhinged | 140–170 | up to 220 | 3–4 |
About 45 damage per Fuel, less for a strong side effect, more for a coin-flip risk. House Blend counts as any type.

Tom vs. Computer
Pick your packs, get a 40-card deck, and beat the computer at Fake Tom: The Trading Card Game. Points go on the high-score boards.
Step 1 · pick your packs
Choose one or more packs. Your deck is built from their Toms and their Core Set cards. A pack plays on its own once it has 10 Toms with 4 Rookies; until then, mix it with another pack. This month’s pack grows every day: a new Tom is added each morning.
Pick at least one playable pack.
